Bikes Mean Business
Albemarle County’s GA-CCRi named a Bronze Level Bicycle Friendly BusinessSM by the League of American Bicyclists
Today, the League of American Bicyclists recognized Commonwealth Computer Research, Inc. (GA-CCRi) with a Bronze Level Bicycle Friendly Business (BFBSM) award, joining more than 1,100 visionary businesses from across the country. GA-CCRi is an Albemarle County, Virginia business with over 80 employees, and is currently the only Bicycle Friendly Business in Albemarle County.
With the announcement of 73 new and renewing BFBs today, GA-CCRi joins a cutting-edge group of 1,132 local businesses, government agencies and Fortune 500 companies in 49 states and Washington, D.C., that are transforming the American workplace. Moving forward, GA-CCRi will have access to a variety of tools and technical assistance from the League to become even more bicycle-friendly.
“The business community’s investment in bicycling is playing a central role in making the country a safer, happier, and more sustainable place to live and work,” said Amelia Neptune, League Bicycle Friendly Business Program Manager. “We applaud this new round of businesses, including GA-CCRi, for leading the charge in creating a bicycle-friendly America for everyone.”
GA-CCRi’s participation in the National Bike Challenge last summer, where in the month of September we finished 21st for medium-sized businesses nationwide and 5th in the state of Virginia, had an energizing effect on the company. GA-CCRi encourages bicycling as an easy option for transportation and provides amenities such as secure, protected bicycle parking, repair tools, accessories storage, and incentives such as an annual budget for each employee that may be used for cycling infrastructure.
When our employees bike, great things happen: we experience a decreased carbon footprint, reduced health care costs, a stronger connection to the community, more satisfying commutes, and a fun and healthy work culture.
Employee routes to GA-CCRi take them on a wide variety of routes across Albemarle County and the City of Charlottesville. As a result, GA-CCRi supports efforts across the area to improve cycling infrastructure.
